Capabilities & Tutorials
Explore how Tech Comm's systems work — from direction finding techniques to system integration and operator interfaces.
Direction Finding
Tech Comm's direction finding systems locate radio frequency emitters by measuring the angle of arrival of incoming signals at the antenna array. Most of our systems employ correlative interferometry (CI) — comparing received signal phase and amplitude patterns against a calibrated antenna model — to determine bearing. Doppler DF options are also available.
Our systems are available in single-channel, dual-channel, and N-channel DF architectures, allowing customers to select the configuration that best matches their mission requirements and platform constraints. As the number of channels increases, accuracy and other performance metrics — such as minimum signal duration — improve.

COMINT
Tech Comm's COMINT-capable systems — the TC-9600 series — perform simultaneous direction finding and communications intelligence from a single antenna. Standard systems cover 30–6000 MHz, with extended frequency ranges available through non-recurring engineering (NRE) development.
Our COMINT output is designed for flexible integration with third-party signal analysis and exploitation software. Tech Comm provides raw COMINT data streams that can be consumed by customer-selected processing tools, giving operators full control over their analysis workflow.

Search & Rescue
Tech Comm systems with Search and Rescue capability include dedicated receivers for detecting and locating emergency signals. Our systems detect 406 MHz EPIRB distress beacons, AIS transmissions, and DSC distress calls — enabling operators to locate vessels and personnel in distress.
Our next-generation EPIRB detection capability is currently in development, delivering improved sensitivity and faster acquisition times. Search and Rescue functionality is available as an add-on to any DF or DF-COMINT system configuration.

System Integration
Tech Comm systems integrate into mission management systems via customizable UDP over Ethernet commands. Our systems also support NMEA protocol output for compatibility with standard navigation and mapping tools.
Every system delivery includes complete Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and initial integration support at no additional cost. For complex or extended integration programs, Tech Comm provides forward-deployed engineers to support on-site installation, testing, and operator training.

GUI & Operator Software
Tech Comm provides operator GUI software for bearing display, signal analysis, and system control. The interface presents real-time bearing data, signal strength, and frequency information in a clear, operator-friendly format.
Our GUI is customizable to meet operator workflow requirements. Display options include Search and Rescue alert overlays, known emitter databases, and configurable signal-of-interest parameters. Tech Comm regularly develops custom GUI features for specific customer programs.

Platforms
Tech Comm systems are deployed on a wide range of defense and civil platforms worldwide. Our SWaP-optimized designs enable installation on platforms where space and power are severely constrained — from small rotary-wing aircraft to large surface vessels.
Active deployments include U.S. Coast Guard cutters, U.S. military helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, special mission aircraft, ground vehicles, and mobile/fixed station installations. Tech Comm's systems are engineered to meet the environmental and certification requirements of each platform type.
